A haughty brunette took her place on the
stage in the small community hall. Her facial features drawn proudly,
she held her position until the first strums of the guitar echoed
throughout the building. The chorus began to clap out a rhythm and the
dancer responded with taps from her nailed shoes. Pride turning to an
expression of pain, she began to weave her web over the captive and
entranced audience.
Whilst
compás means time signature and musical metre in Spanish, in
Flamenco it is the entirety of the rhythmic cycle. The beat is
maintained by percussive finger tapping by the guitarist on the body of
his instrument, and the
palmas or clapping of the singers. The
latter comes in
the sharp slap of the secas or the muffled, cupped-hand sordas.
An outward flick of the guitarist’s right hand and the rhythmic role of
notes reverberating from the guitar resemble the drumming of the
dancer’s feet. Observing the whole experience, I felt a tear slide down
my cheek – seeing live flamenco is a thing not to be missed.
It was thus with great interest that I
noticed a great opportunity to
learn Spanish
Spain. While searching on the internet for a
Spanish course
Spain, I found that my passion for flamenco and my desire to learn
Spanish could all be realized in the one
language school Spain. Studying in the Andalusian capital, the
birthplace and heart of flamenco, I could study both Spanish and
flamenco at a
Spanish school Seville.
The course offers four daily hours of
Spanish at one of the leading Spanish schools in Seville, and then an
hour of flamenco everyday at a school in the centre of Seville. The
duration of the course is two weeks, Monday to Friday, and the language
school can even arrange accommodation for their students.
Why not go to the heart of it? Learn
Spanish in Spain
and guarantee yourself an unforgettable experience.
